Workboxes… Our Way

Good Morning,

I had a few questions last week about the workboxes so I thought I would make a quick video sharing how we use them.

** Warning:  I am very shaky with the camera and I am very Southern!!  Ha!  I was also talking really fast and trying to keep the video under 10 minutes for YouTube.  **

This is not my original idea.  I took the original idea from Sue Patrick – www.workboxsystem.com – and Erica over at Confessions of a Homeschooler and made this concept work for our family.  Erica has a recent blog post and video showing how she uses the workboxes here and she also does a “What’s in the Box Wednesday” series often on her blog so you might want to check that out too.

Few things I forgot to mention in the video…

  • This is a day’s worth of school – not a week.
  • I usually put a sticky note on the reading that the boys need to do that day.  It tells them what pages to read or what pages in the workbook to complete.  When they are done, they come slap that sticky note on my lesson plan book so I know to record it in our records for that day.  This has turned out to be another great little perk with the workboxes.
  • I also usually put a snack in that 4th box during handwriting just to give the children a little mid morning boost to keep them going.  It is usually something easy and not messy.  Caleb Davis fills these up for us while I make dinner each evening.
  • The only things not kept in our boxes are our bible curriculum that we do in the evenings and our calendar notebooks that we use during our Morning Meeting time.

**  We do not start school at 7:00 am.  I just meant that our day was starting up.  We usually begin closer to 9:00 am every morning.  **

I hope that helps some of you!  I would love to know if you try this out and how it works for your family.
