The Homeschool Mother’s Journal – Week #

I could write a long paragraph here telling you all about how sorry I am that I did not keep up with this little journal since the beginning of the school year (I think I did like 4 weeks) but I am just going to spare you all that nonsense because most of you reading this are homeschool mamas too so you all know that life kicks in and all that extra time + energy is just zapped most some days. I am just going to hold my head up high and keep marching forward. As I told a friend earlier this week, I am going to start up again NOW and hopefully I can get in a good rhythm journaling about the remaining weeks of school so that next year will be great!

Now. aren’t you all glad that I spared you that big ‘ole long paragraph about all that nonsense?  Ha!!

Without further ado, I present to you this week’s…

In our homeschool this week…

We had a really “normal” and productive school week around here.  Not too many extra activities or commitments.  We had co op on Monday but then we were able to spend the rest of our days at home – just doing school downstairs in our little schoolroom.  Isn’t that how this whole “homeschool” thing is supposed to work?

The reality is…  With 5 children (under the age of 7), there are some days when some subjects just have to be put on hold until the next day (spelling + history in our case some days this week) but overall, I felt like we got most of the “plan” done.  Which makes this homeschool Mama very happy!!

We are continuing on with our morning meeting (aka calendar skills) each day.  I really enjoy this start to our day but I have to be honest that there are times that I simply loathe having to do this  I have felt at times that maybe it is not necessary and so we will take a little break for a while but it always comes back to bite me and they forget the important stuff that we have spent time learning.  So when I am struggling with this love + hate relationship with the Morning Meeting, I simply do my “quick version” and we move on.

My favorite thing this week was…

I am just really, really enjoying my days with this little Kindergarten Boy…

I truly do think that kindergarten is just one of the sweetest times you can have with your child so I am really enjoying my last few weeks with this guy.  We are also in the middle of planning out his graduation so that has been fun too.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

This has been our 1st year doing the Apologia Elementary Science Curriculum.  So far, we are loving it.  Caleb Davis was thrilled to get outside in the warm sunshine this weekend and paint his birdhouse.

Places We Are Going and People We Are Seeing…

Our homeschool group’s drama club put on a play Friday night.  It was based on this book and it was hilarious.  The students (and parents) did a great job and our whole family had a fun time.  We read the book several times this week and this little theme “It Could Always Be Worse” has just stuck in my head.  I might just have to frame it or plaster it on my walls somewhere.

I am cooking…

I posted this picture on Instagram this week with the caption that said something like “typical family breakfast”.

I have to admit that the real title of this section today should be “My hubby is cooking”.  Josh does a wonderful job making breakfast for our family each morning.  I do most of the cooking around here but my wonderful better half knows that mornings are not really my best times so he gets up really early and makes a wonderful feast for us each day.

I am grateful for…

**  A God in heaven who knows my name and cares for me.

**  Sunny days

**  Days at home to love + nurture + train my babies.

Well, that about wraps up this week’s homeschool journal.  Thanks for stopping by!
