The Homeschool Mother’s Journal - Week of 03.30.2014

One of the main reasons that I have started this little “school blog” is to document and journal some of the everyday moments that occur during our homeschool days.  I have tried journaling about our days before and seemed to fall off the wagon but this time I am REALLY committed to keeping up this project.  I really want to have these sweet days documented so that I can look back fondly on our precious school days and remember that these truly are the best days that I will have with my children.

So without further ado, take a little peek in this homeschool mother’s journal this week…

In our homeschool this week…

We had a pretty slow and normal week.  It is so hard for me to believe that we only have TEN school days left this year.  We are for sure not stopping with the minimum of 170 days that our cover school requires but it does feel good to know that all those “required” days are almost completed.

With Bennett Lawson’s arrival this semester + the very cold winter and now chilly spring that we are having, we have on purpose had a very slow, quiet semester.  This has meant lots of time at home and lots of time reading good books.

And I know that I am not the only one who has a 3rd grader that sits like this and reads the encyclopedia for fun, right?

Places We Are Going and People We are Seeing…

All of our regular weekly activities were back on the schedule this week (most of them were cancelled last week due to spring break).  We were back to doing ballet, soccer, and piano lessons.

My Children’s Favorites This Week Were…

As we wind down the school year, it is fun to see the children complete some of their subject books.  Emma Lee finished her Kindergarten Math book this week and both boys completed their handwriting books.  They were so excited to finish their school books!!

Things I Am Working On…

Believe it or not, I am already working on our calendar and subjects for this next school year.  With our recent trip to the homeschool convention and all the fun new curriculum catalogs that have been coming in lately, it has been hard not to get excited about next year.  We are mostly just making lists and praying about things right now. I think I am a little bipolar in some ways.  I am always so sad to see the current chapter end and yet so excited to see the new one begin.

What We Are Reading…

Orphan Queen Header

Speaking of our recent trip to the homeschool convention, one of the sessions we heard and companies we fell in love with was LamplighterHave you heard of them?

It is a company that produces good and wholesome books, but it is so much more than that.  These books are “edited within a Biblical theological framework to ensure that each story reflects the character of God and provides key Scriptures to be stored within the heart”. How awesome is that for your family Read Aloud times each day?  They also have a a great book club purchase option and their audio series appears to be really good too.

Orphan Queen Book     Little Sir Galahad

The Orphan Queen is one of their newest releases and we picked it up as a treat for the girls along with Little Sir Galahad for the boys.  They were so excited when Daddy and Mommy arrived home but to bring new books home was a special treat!!

It is no secret that we LOVE books and we LOVE Read Aloud Time around here.  And I mean how could you NOT love the look of these books just sitting on your shelves.  Please tell me that I am not the only one who loves the LOOKS of a great book?    I am thinking these books are going to quickly become favorites around here for years to come.

Well, that about wraps up this week.  I am really looking forward to sharing these little snippets from my homeschool journal each week.

What about you ?  What has been going on in your family’s homeschool this week?
