Unboxing :: June Bookish Box

Cardboard boxes stack in apartment, moving day

Hey, Hey, Hey…  It’s Saturday!!  I received some fun happy mail from the The Bookish Box this week.  While the past 2 boxes were great as far as quality and cool content, I was not really into the themes.  This month’s theme was all about “Classic Novels” and I could not wait to dig into this one.

Take a peek as I open up the June 2016 Bookish Box

So yeah..  I am pretty happy with this month’s items and I definitely loved the theme.  If you are a book nerd like me or if you need to get a gift for a book worm in your life, then I recommend a unique gift from The Bookish Box

Curriculum Planning Forms

Happy Friday Friends!!

It’s that time of year when we are all in planning mode for the upcoming school year.  I thought it would be fun to share with you a fun, FREE printable that I use to plan our school year.

Our Little Schoolhouse

This is a great form to list curriculum choices for subjects you do as a family, as well as individual studies for each child.  There is also a column to mark when you have purchased (or pulled from storage) all the supplies you need, as well as a spot to mark when you have it all scheduled in your lesson planner.  I have used this form for a few years now and it has really helped me in my initial planning for the year.  As a family that follows many of the teachings of Charlotte Mason, we do many subjects together and I really like to have one central form to map out all our “family integrated” subjects, as well as a separate form to keep track of each child’s individual studies.

Take a peek at the forms below…

Now hold on, I know what you are thinking…  This looks great, but I really need a custom form for my family.

I have you covered!!  We all know that every family and every homeschool is different and sometimes we need forms that are made just for our individual needs.  I have an option to customize your child’s individual subjects, and you can also include your child’s name, grade, and age.

Unboxing :: WalMart Spring Beauty Box

Cardboard boxes stack in apartment, moving day

Have you guys heard about the WalMart Beauty Box?  It is a fun seasonal subscription where you receive sample beauty products useful for the current season.  I love that it is only $5.00 per box (and that includes shipping).  I also love the fact that all of these products are available from WalMart, so you know that if you fall in love with something that it will be reasonable to add to your beauty stash.

3 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Purchase Curriculum

Happy Hour

Happy Tuesday!!  I was the host over at Homeschool Happy Hour today.  This is an amazing group of ladies, and I feel so blessed to be a part of this great group.  The topic I choose for today has been on my heart + mind the past few weeks so I hope that it will be helpful to you ladies as you plan + prepare the educational choices you are making for your family.  Please remember that there is no “right” materials or methods.  You simply have to give this all over to the Lord and He will guide your path.

Ready to watch today’s Happy Hour?  Here we go…

3 Questions To Ask Yourself
Before You Purchase Curriculum

I mentioned a few resources in this episode…

This is a workshop explaining the 5 main styles (or flavors) of homeschooling.
In this video,
Sonya Shafer explains each one and helps you choose the one that best fits your family.

And here are a few other good resources to help you learn all the terminology and methods associated with homeschool.  (Some are books and some are blog posts.)

Pam Barnhill over at EdSnapshots has an excellent resource to help guide you to find your family’s educational method.

Homeschooling 101: A Guide to Getting Started.
by:  Erica Arndt at Confessions of a Homeschooler

Erica Arndt at Confessions of a Homeschooler has a book and a blog post on the methods that you might want to check out.

Remember…  Ask yourself those 3 questions - Why are we homeschooling?, What materials do I like to use?, and How do I want to teach? – and this should set you up for success and keep you from buying the wrong kids of curriculum.

Thanks to all you ladies that joined me live today and I hope this was helpful as you make plans for the upcoming year.

Flashback Friday :: Looking Back at April 1st

Flashback Friday 2

Happy Friday Peeps!!  Can you believe that it is April already?

I did a quick search in our family photos timeline and found these cute pictures from 5 years ago on April 1, 2011.

Wow!! These pictures bring back so many crazy memories.  Our house has seen lots of updates and renovations since 5 years ago.

This was our precious Joy Lynn at 11 months.  It is so hard for me to believe that she is now in kindergarten.  She was spunky then and she is still spunky now at 5 years old.

Motherhood Monday - You Have A High Calling

***  This blog post is part of an ongoing series.  Click here to read all the posts.  ***

Happy Monday!! I just wanted to pop on here real quick to share a few more affirmations to affirm your high calling as wife + mother.

But wait... Ask yourself this question first. Do you consider it a high calling from God that He has given you this role as wife + mother? If not, perhaps that needs to be your prayer today that God will bring you joy in this journey that you are called too – being wife to your husband + mother to your children.

Here are a few more affirmations to encourage you along the way…

I LOVE home-making -- making my home a haven for my husband and family.

I LOVE eating and fellowshipping together as a family -- without the competition of the television, internet, or social media beeping at me.

I LOVE reading to my children.

I LOVE having my children around me.

Walking right here on this wonderful journey of motherhood with you today,

Happy Easter!

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
